Dental cleaning is a relatively easy and painless procedure and is important for maintaining oral health. During cleaning, dental microbial plaque, calculus (tartar), food residues and stains are removed from the teeth surfaces.
After the dental cleaning, fluoride is applied. Fluoride application aims to prevent tooth caries, as it makes the teeth harder and more resistant to the acid derivatives of cariogenic bacteria and arrests the progression of incipient carious lesions. Fluoride application is recommended to start from the 1st year of age and to be repeated every 4-6 months, depending on the caries risk of each child, until adulthood.
In every session, oral hygiene instructions and diet advice are given to the child and the parents, in order to promote and maintain the dental and general health of the child.
