Our general goal is the preservation and restoration of the teeth. However, sometimes this is not possible, and tooth extraction becomes inevitable. This occurs in cases of extensive tooth decay or trauma, cases of inflammation and abscess formation, for orthodontic reasons, or when the permanent tooth fails to absorb the root of the primary (baby) tooth.
In some cases of primary tooth extraction, that takes place much earlier than its normal exfoliation due to its extensive damage, the placement of space maintainer appliance is necessary to preserve the space until the permanent tooth will erupt (see Services/Space Maintainer Appliance).
