According to the European Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (EAPD) and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), the first visit should take place after the eruption of the first tooth or before the child turns one year old. The pediatric dentist will evaluate the dental health of the child and inform the parents about proper oral hygiene, the correct use of pacifiers and bottles, the appropriate dietary habits, and about the proper development of the child’s jaws.
The first visit is crucial for preventing early childhood caries (ECC) and gingivitis. Cooperation from very young children with extensive caries is nearly impossible, and in severe cases, they may need to undergo general anesthesia (in a hospital setting) to perform the necessary treatment. Our goal is to provide timely information and encourage the adoption of proper habits and appropriate oral care routines to prevent such cases.
